Lee County Wild Turkey Strand restoration project
WSA requested LAGO’s services for the review and improvement of an existing Lehigh Acres numerical model to evaluate the proposed Lee County Wild Turkey Strand restoration project. From improving the Model performance, to simulating existing conditions and restoration scenarios, to providing suggestions for improving the wetland water depths and hydroperiods associated with the proposed restoration, LAGO supported this restoration effort.

Specifics
The existing Lehigh Acres MIKE SHE/MIKE11 model was modified to improve the model performance south of SR 82 in the vicinity of the Wild Turkey Strand project. The existing conditions simulations were set-up and model results processed to generate detailed water depth and hydroperiod maps using LiDAR topographic data.
LAGO provided a review of changes to model files representing the proposed modifications of the agricultural lands within the restoration area and flow-way modifications associated with the restoration project. Provided suggestions to improve the wetland water depths and hydroperiods associated with the proposed improvements. Assisted with post-processing model results to generate water depth and hydroperiod maps. Reviewed documentation prepared by Water Science Associates of the Hydrology changes associated with the proposed restoration project.
Outcome
Model files, GIS maps and documentation was delivered for decision takers about the proposed restoration project.
