MIKE SHE Modeling of WQ Treatment Areas
The SFWMD has performed a regional modeling study for the Picayune Strand Restoration Project area and reported monthly average flows through the culverts at US-41 Road (Tamiami Trail). However, a more detailed modeling was needed in support to the design of water treatment areas and the water quality calculations.

Specifics
A high-resolution MIKE SHE/MIKE11 model for the area was developed that allowed to estimate flows through the US-41 Road culverts BR-36 and BR-37 in existing conditions. Then, this model was modified to include the proposed treatment areas and to estimate the flows through them and by-passing.
Three alternatives were considered in this scenario evaluation.
Outcome
Flows estimated at key locations from the MIKE SHE/MIKE11 model for existing and proposed conditions were provided to Stantec as the base for the water quality spreadsheet calculations.
