O’Neal WRE Project Evaluation
The Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS-Gainesville) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requested a review the O’Neal properties and the NRCS Preliminary Wetland Reserve Plan of Operations (WRPO) for the project to evaluate if the goal of restoration of the historic hydrology of the site is achievable.

Specifics
Lago conducted data collection, a field visit, and proposed improvements to the preliminary WRPO. A preliminary regional model was developed in MIKE SHE/MIKE11 and in ICPR for the Arbuckle Creek Watershed. Then, results from the regional model were used to impose boundary conditions on the preliminary ICPR local model also developed around the project area.
These preliminary regional and local models performed relatively well at observation stations when running during a three-year period. Suggestions to improve the model setup and performance in future efforts were provided.
Modifications to the existing conditions models were proposed to build a post-project conditions model. Alternatives to minimize head drop of the new structures proposed at the berm were also recommended.
