I-75 Canal Improvements: MIKE SHE Modeling
The SFWMD plans to assess improvements to the I-75 and Green Canals to enhance conveyance and flood protection. A hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) assessment study was proposed to provide the basis of design for the improved cross-sectional configurations of these canals.

Specifics
LAGO updated and refined the BCB MIKE SHE/MIKE 11 existing conditions model. The updated model was run for four design storms to assess the current level of service for flood protection provided by these canals. A total of 5 flood protection improvement scenario evaluations were simulated. An evaluation of the groundwater impact of removing the I75W1 structure was also conducted during normal hydrologic conditions by testing another 10 scenarios.
Outcome
The flood protection improvement scenario evaluations produced slight decrease (less than 0.4’) in peak stages in the canals.
New gate operation seasonal rules at GG2 structure were recommended to produce the best groundwater benefits during the dry and wet seasons while not elevating the wet season stages upstream of the removed I75W1 structure with respect to existing conditions.
