I-10 Corridor MIKEFLOOD Model Evaluation

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently completed construction of a new interchange at Bob Hope Parkway and I-10 in Thousand Oaks, CA. Adjacent property owners were concerned about the increased flooding risk posed by the intersection. Therefore, Caltrans authorized a study to assess the flood risk posed by the completed project. LAGO provided MIKEFLOOD modeling support to Mr. Rick Van Bruggen, P.E., CFM, D.WRE at Water Resources Consulting Services, Inc. (WRCS).

Specifics

LAGO reviewed an existing post-construction MIKEFLOOD model and modified the topography to represent pre-construction conditions. LAGO ran both models for the 100-year return period flash flooding event and compared the results to evaluate the potential flooding impact of the new interchange on adjacent properties.

Outcome

LAGO provided the results from this modeling study to the client, who use them to settle the case without going to trial.
