Golf Course at Golden Gate – FEMA MT-2 Support
Grady requested a FEMA study from LAGO for the area around the Golf Course located near the intersection of Collier Blvd. and the Golden Gate Main Canal in Collier County. The Golf Course owner is making modifications in the topography inside the red rectangle shown below, and the FEMA reviewers requested to make an MT-2 application with the corresponding H&H modeling to show that the topographic alterations would not impact upstream areas.

Specifics
A pre-project conditions model was built around the golf course. The best available DEM was used to represent the topography of the area. Base flood elevations reported by FEMA were used to impose constant boundary conditions at the north and south model boundaries. No rainfall was applied in the model. Peak stages and flows were obtained after the model reached steady-state conditions.
The pre-project condition model was modified inside the golf course to simulate the post-project conditions. The estimated flow from both models, pre- and post- projects, were compared. Stages in a north to south profile were also compared. The 100-year return period FEMA peak stages were applied at the boundaries. Thus, the initial stages may be close to the expected 100-year return period peak stages in some areas inside the model domain since the beginning of the simulation. The 3-day duration 100-year return period rainfall is applied to ensure that the 100-year return period peak stages are estimated throughout the model domain. It was obtained that the peak stages around the urban development did not increase except by the most southern node before the outfall that showed a slight increase of 0.08’.
Outcome
The results from the modeling study were used to conduct an MT-2 Application to FEMA. LAGO addressed all feedback comments from the County and FEMA reviewers.
