Flood Study Western Utility Complex
The Western Utility Complex will be constructed in an approximately 900-acre property located northwest from the intersection of State Road 44 and Interstate 95. As part of the permitting process, it was proposed that a flood study in the area be commissioned. The main objectives of the proposed flood study are to determine the BFE for the area and to evaluate and reduce potential negative impacts of the proposed development.

Specifics
The project specific tasks included:
- Data collection & evaluation
- Existing condition model
- Post-development model
As part of the data collection task a Field Reconnaissance of drainage features. The subbasins and flow paths is based on this collected field information and in the LiDAR based DEM that was processed by using ArcHydro.
An EPA-SWMM5 existing conditions model was built around the project area. The results from the 100-year design storm event were processed to produce pre-development BFE and flood depth maps. Then, the existing conditions model will be modified to include the changes that would result from the development, including the new proposed drainage features. Results from pre- and post-development models will be compared to evaluate the effect of the development in water levels and discharges from the area. Modifications to the proposed design will be evaluated to reduce or eliminate predicted negative impacts from the development.
Outcome
Technical Memoranda summarizing the results of the flood study are provided to assist the Design and Environmental Permitting team of the project.
