City of Bonita Springs: ICPR Model Update. Evaluation of Hurricane Irma Flood Mitigation Projects
City of Bonita Springs experienced extensive flooding during Hurricane Irma and wanted to evaluate some flood improvement projects.

Specifics
Lago updated the City’s ICPR model by using recent DEM and permit information. The model was verified by using Hurricane Irma conditions, and it was recalibrated to better reproduce observed station data, rating curves, and highwater marks. The model was then used to evaluate 3 main scenarios with several alternatives to reduce the depth and duration of flooding in the City during extreme events.
Outcome
Lago produced flood inundation maps, and other graphs and tables to illustrate the model performance and to support the scenario evaluation. Lago also participated in multiple discussions with City staff and addressed questions and concerns about the modeling results.
